Home of Do Gato Portuguese Water Dogs
Do Gato is my registered AKC kennel name.
Animal assisted therapy is my joy, breeding Portuguese Water Dogs is my passion,
and "Do Gato" Portuguese Water Dogs is my registered kennel name.
Do Gato's foundation Mother is Ch. Stargazer's Gatinha Do Algarve. "Kitty"
began her show and therapy career at about the same time. She became a therapy dog at age 1, and finished her Championship
after 1 litter of puppies at about age 3.
Kitty is now retired from motherhood, after 4 litters of 31 beautiful PWD puppies.
She has produced, to date, 3 Champions, and 3 more are "pointed". Several of her puppies are working
therapy dogs.
Kitty's daughter from her last litter, "Mea" (Do Gato's Mimosa of Sunnyhill),
now living in Queensland, Austrilia, finished her Australian Championship in just 13 shows, with multiple Best
of Breeds.
My goal in breeding is first and foremost, health and temperament. All health
testing suggested/required by the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America is done before any breeding is considered.
Potential owners are cultivated happily, developing a relationship even before the litter is born.
Now that Kitty is retired from the conformation show ring, her daughter (Ch. Do Gato's
Catwoman, aka Pickles) has had three litters of puppies, born 10/17/05 (Ch. Tesouro's Dandy Diamond Jim sire),
born 8/8/06 (Ch. SaltyDawg Twice Baked sire), and 12/20/07 (Am/Int'l. Ch. Driftwood's Bacchus Dos sire).
One of Pickles/Baker's pups, "Truman", owned and loved by the Fiore
Family in New Jersey, was shown to his AKC Championship at 16 months by PHA Pam Bober. Well Done Truman!
Pickles is a beautiful, charming, and very busy young girl. I continue to show
her as a "Specials" in Best of Breed Competition when she hasn't been on maternity leave! She is very
active in therapy work in several different venues, having passed her therapy test just 2 weeks following her Championship
at age 1. From troubled high school boys, to helping elementary school children learn to read in the Reading with
Rover program; visiting inmates in the Special Offender Unit at Monroe Prison, visits to Seniors in multiple facilities;
as well as children and families at Ronald McDonald House, Pickles keeps herself very occupied, with me at the
other end of the leash.
While we remain a proud founding team of Reading with Rover, as well as being
members of R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs), a number of new facilities and populations are now receiving
the benefit of our visits, including the Gero-Psych unit at Northwest Hospital, two Salvation Army "safe houses"
for victims of domestic violence, and Ronald McDonald House. Kitty and Pickles alternate between different facilities,
with a visit scheduled virtually every day.
I breed perhaps once a year, and Pickles' waiting list is substantial. People
often drop off because they "just can't wait". Please, in addition to me, contact several breeders, and
choose the one you want to work with.
References are gladly given by my puppy owners (many who've gotten more than one pup for me). First, foremost,
always — what's best
for the breed, and best for my dogs is what comes first.

Do Gato at Westminster Kennel Club, New York
2006 found Jonah (Ch. Do Gato's A Cura Com Amor) showing at Westminster Kennel
Club, Madison Square Garden, New York. While he didn't win, he showed well in "the blizzard of the century".
Jonah has more than a dozen Best of Breed wins, as well as two Group Placements and an Award of Merit by the Southern
California PWD Club in 2005.
Jonah is owned and loved by Elana Winsberg and Mike Barber of Seattle.
2007 found sisters Pickles and Dazzle (Ch. Do Gato's Catwoman and Ch. Do Gato's
Dazzling Diamante) competing in a fine field of 30 PWDs at Westminster. Dazzle arrived in NY with multiple BOBs
and a Group Placement, and she made the first cut of PWDs from 30 to 9. A snow/ice storm stranded our intrepid
contingent for 3 extra days, but it didn't dampen our fun! Dazzle returned to the Garden in 2008, shown by Dad
Jim Beach.
Our New Addition:
She's RainCity Do Gato Miss Brown To You. Billie is a beautiful rich brown color.
She was bred by Angela and Pamela Harding, RainCity PWDs. Billie's Dad is Jonah, and her Mom is AKC/Int'l. Ch.
RainCity's All That Jazz, RN.
Billie made her ring debut in Canada at 6 months. She sprinkled her wins from
1st to 3rd Places during her weekend of fun (and I DO mean fun!). I guess it's a good thing when the Judge is laughing
at you and your puppy, but gives you the ribbon after requesting an encore run around the ring!
Holiday puppies for Pickles and Deuce:
AKC/Can./Int'l. Ch. Driftwood's Bacchus Dos (Deuce) and Ch. Do Gato's Catwoman
(Pickles) welcomed 5 'Screen Legend' puppies on 12/20/07.
The Screen Legends are: Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power, Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh,
and Grace Kelly.
