Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)
Great Dog teams, under the direction of Laurie Hardman (in charge of Therapy Program)
and Judi Anderson-Wright, are going to begin providing AAT services at Northwest Hospital, including rehab and
gero-psychiatric populations.
Great Dog teams are at Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Catherine Booth
House (Salvation Army), Merrill Gardens, and countless other facilities. Great Dog teams also work with Washington
State Reformatory prisoners in Monroe, Washington.
Animal Assisted Therapy sessions are typically conducted in conjunction with occupational,
physical, speech, or other therapeutic staff. AAT sessions are characterized by having specific treatment goals
and modalities, and results are documented. Experienced teams may provide AAT independently under the direction
of healthcare staff.
